The blackberries will bear fruit this year. We planted the blackberry vine last year. It bore some fruit last year. This year it is covered in blossoms. We'll get fruit unless there's a store that blows all the blossoms away or the birds come and eat all the berries. I'm devising a way to keep the birds away. I'll post a picture of the whole blackberry plant this weekend.
Some of our strawberries were planted last year and they will bear fruit this year. We'll remove all the blossoms from our new strawberry plants so that they can establish themselves for a better crop next year.
The blueberry plants should also yield. The catalog from which we bought them indicated that they'll bear fruit in the first year.
Inspired by sites like urbanhomestead.org and the book “Square Foot Gardening” by Mel Bartholomew, our family has decided to see what we can grow in one small section of our backyard in Collin County, Texas (north of Dallas).
We have very little experience as gardeners.
We thought it would be fun and informative to document our journey with this blog.

I meant storm, not store.
